Getting there and the practical bits

Ask the provider to confirm the access arrangements and suitability for your party.

South Bay is the strongest for full-on seaside convenience, with lifeguards in season, nearby restaurants, ice cream parlours, harbour activity, car parking and new shower and changing facilities planned on Foreshore Road. North Bay adds lifeguards, paid toilets, parking close to the promenade and easy access to the railway, Peasholm Park, Sea Life and the Open Air Theatre.

Check the walking distance, steps and parking arrangements for your chosen hut. Facilities can have seasonal opening hours.

Facilities and beach guide

Bringing your dog

Scarborough is mixed in summer rather than fully open. From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are banned on parts of both South Bay and North Bay. On South Bay, the restricted section runs from the West Pier to the steps near the southern end by the underground car park. On North Bay, the ban covers the main central stretch between the Sands and the northernmost slipway by the chalet run. Outside those areas, there is still usable beach, so summer dog access is possible if you pick your spot.

Permission to bring a dog into the hut is separate from access to the beach. Ask the hut provider before booking.

Weather, tides and water

Check the latest forecast and tide times shortly before you travel. A forecast available today may not cover your planned visit.

See current beach conditions

Follow local lifeguard advice and beach safety signs. Tide predictions do not tell you whether it is safe to swim.

A little more to your day

Leave time for a walk, a picnic or something nearby. Check opening hours, access and any separate booking requirements.
