What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device (computer, phone or tablet) when you visit them. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to understand how visitors use the site so it can be improved.

Some cookies are set by the website you are visiting (first-party cookies). Others are set by third-party services that the website uses, such as analytics tools, email marketing platforms or payment providers (third-party cookies).

This policy explains which cookies are used on www.hutandtide.co.uk, why they are used, and how you can control them.

How we use cookies

Hut & Tide uses cookies for the following purposes:

• Essential cookies that the website needs to function properly, including your cookie consent preferences.
• Analytics cookies that help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.
• Marketing cookies that allow our email marketing platform to track form submissions and subscription activity.

We do not use cookies for advertising or to build profiles for selling to third parties.

Essential cookies

These cookies are required for the website to work. They cannot be switched off. They are set in response to actions you take on the site, such as setting your cookie preferences or logging into your account.

Cloudflare Turnstile checks registration, sign-in and recovery forms for automated abuse. It processes browser and network information for that security check. Read Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.

Analytics cookies and tracking

With performance consent, Metricool receives one visit to the clean public page URL and your viewport dimensions. We do not send it URL queries, fragments, referrers, form contents or account identities. Like other remote services, it receives standard network information including your IP address. It is excluded from private and shared-plan pages and respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Metricool privacy policy.

When you choose to save a hut without signing in, we store your hut IDs and optional planned dates in this browser under hutandtide.saved.v1. This functional storage keeps your chosen shortlist until you remove it or clear browser storage; it is not sent to analytics.

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors find and use the site. This helps us see which pages are popular, how people navigate the site, and where we can make improvements. GA4 collects data such as which pages you visit, how long you spend on each page, the device and browser you use, and the country you are visiting from.

We do not send your name, email address, form contents, free-text search terms, URL queries or booking/account references to GA4. It uses a cookie-based client identifier to distinguish between visitors. IP addresses are anonymised by default in GA4.

These cookies are only set if you give consent through the cookie banner. Analytics and consent-banner scripts are not loaded on account, authentication or private booking pages. With existing analytics consent, protected first-party TempData may briefly hold a fixed account-action label and time so a successful registration submission, verification or sign-in can be counted once on a public page within 30 minutes. It contains no account identity; expired outcomes are discarded.

When enabled and consented, site analytics also counts successful contact submissions, search/filter results, hut views and booking/calendar interactions. Clicks and submissions do not prove a confirmed booking or payment. Collection honours Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track and stops when consent is withdrawn.

With analytics consent, Hut & Tide also measures visits to advertising-only hut pages and clicks on their external booking links. This uses a random reference held only in the current page's memory for up to one hour. It does not add an analytics cookie or local-storage identifier, and it does not follow you across pages. Owners see aggregate counts, not visitor identities or offsite bookings.

This listing measurement stops when you withdraw consent and honours Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track browser signals. If consent cannot be read, no observation is sent. You can still browse huts and follow booking links without accepting analytics. See the privacy policy for record retention.

Marketing cookies

Our public newsletter forms submit to Hut & Tide. Our server requests a double-opt-in email through Brevo's API; the forms do not load Brevo tracking scripts or send your details directly from your browser to Brevo. Cloudflare Turnstile checks the request to help prevent abuse.

Account newsletter preferences are synchronised from our server after account email verification, with a separate newsletter confirmation required. Brevo's confirmation pages and email links have their own cookie information. Newsletter permission is separate from cookie preferences.

Payment cookies

Creating an account does not start a payment. On-site hire and advertising subscriptions use Stripe-hosted Checkout, where Stripe may use cookies needed for authentication, fraud prevention and payment processing. Owner billing and payout setup also use Stripe-hosted pages. Read Stripe’s cookie policy for details. If you book on an external provider’s website, its payment and cookie policies apply.

Optional maps

Our embedded MapLibre maps request map data from OpenFreeMap when you open a map or choose a map view. They do not use analytics consent or set map-tracking cookies. OpenFreeMap receives the network information needed to serve the map, including your IP address and requested map area. Map requests omit credentials and referrers. See our privacy policy for details. The location and parking lists remain available without opening a map.

Font loading

The shared site layout loads its Inter typeface from Hut & Tide's own website. This font request does not contact Google Fonts or set a font-related cookie.

Managing your preferences

When you first visit www.hutandtide.co.uk, a cookie consent banner is displayed. This banner is provided by Cookie-Script and allows you to choose which categories of cookies you accept.

Third-party links

This website contains links to other websites, including beach hut owner websites, activity booking platforms and local attraction pages. These external sites have their own cookie and privacy policies which we do not control. We recommend reading their policies before accepting cookies on their sites.

Changes to this policy

We may update this cookie policy from time to time, for example if we add new third-party services or if the law changes. When we update it, we will change the "last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will reset the cookie consent banner so you can review and accept the updated categories.
