A proper seaside, with huts to match

Bournemouth's coastline runs from Hengistbury Head in the east to Alum Chine in the west, passing through sheltered bays, sandy coves and long open stretches of beach. The area benefits from a south-facing micro-climate with some of the warmest sea temperatures in the UK, which means huts get used from early spring right through to autumn and beyond.

The town has held Blue Flag beach status since 1996. Across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole there are currently nine Blue Flag beaches and ten Seaside Awards. Bournemouth beach itself has been ranked among the top beaches in Europe by TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice Awards multiple times, including the 12th best beach in the world in 2025.

Beach huts here are part of the furniture. They line the promenades from Southbourne through to Branksome, each one a base for the day: somewhere to store bags, change, brew a cup of tea, eat lunch out of the wind and let the kids nap. The huts range from traditional wooden cabins with a gas ring and deckchairs to modern pods with mains electricity, kitchenettes and microwaves, and even beach lodges with bathrooms and Wi-Fi for overnight stays.

Where to hire a beach hut in Bournemouth

Each stretch of Bournemouth's coastline has its own feel. Some areas are lively with cafes and watersports, others are quieter and better suited to families or anyone wanting a calmer day. Here is what to expect from each area.

Alum Chine

Family-friendly with tropical gardens, a pirate-themed playground and a water play area. The beach holds a Green Flag award and sits close to pubs and cafes on the promenade. Huts here are popular with families who want easy access to car parks, food and entertainment without walking far.

Boscombe

Known for its surf culture and vibrant atmosphere. Boscombe has its own pier, a weekly market, sports courts, bouldering and an outdoor gym. The designer beach pods at the Overstrand (by Wayne and Geraldine Hemingway) come with mains electricity, a kitchenette, kettle and microwave. Accessible huts are also available here.

Bournemouth Central

The main beaches either side of Bournemouth Pier. This is where the action is: the Oceanarium, Rockreef climbing, zip wire from the pier, and plenty of bars and restaurants. Day hire huts are available as walk-ins from the Tourist Information Centre at Pier Approach during the season.

Durley Chine

A Blue Flag beach with a central location close to town and the Lower Gardens. There is a traditional pub right on the promenade, a cafe, and the new Durley Environmental Hub built from locally sourced, renewable materials. Good for families and couples who want to be close to everything.

Southbourne

The eastern end of the Bournemouth stretch, close to Hengistbury Head nature reserve. Southbourne has its own high street with independent shops and coffee houses. The beach is calmer and less crowded, which suits families and couples who want a more relaxed day. Huts are typically available for two days or more.

Day hire, weekly or the whole season

Beach hut hire in Bournemouth works on a few different timescales. Which one suits you depends on whether you are visiting for an afternoon or planning a summer of regular trips to the coast.

Day hire

Turn up, collect a key, and have a base for the day. Available as walk-ins at selected Bournemouth beaches from late March to September, or book in advance for a minimum of two days at other locations. Prices typically start from around the cost of lunch out.

Weekly hire

Book a hut for a full week and use it every day of your holiday or half-term break. Weekly hire is available at most Bournemouth beaches and is the most popular option during summer. Keys are collected at the start and returned on the final Friday by 5pm.

Seasonal hire

Have a hut for the entire season: spring, summer, autumn or winter. This is how regular visitors and locals use beach huts the most. You get your own key, your own spot, and can drop in whenever you like. Some owners also offer block bookings of several weeks at a reduced rate.

Beach hut hire in Bournemouth

Prices depend on the location, time of year and how long you hire for. Day hire is typically the cheapest option and starts from around the cost of a family lunch out. Weekly hire costs more but works out cheaper per day. Seasonal hire gives the best value for regular visitors. Prices also vary between standard huts, beach pods with electricity and beach lodges with full facilities.
Most standard huts come with a storage cupboard, a side table, four deckchairs, a gas ring for boiling a kettle, and curtains for privacy. Crockery and cooking utensils are not usually included. Beach pods at Boscombe Overstrand are more equipped, with mains electricity, a kitchenette, kettle, microwave, directors chairs and a table. Beach lodges include a bathroom, kitchen, TV and Wi-Fi.
Yes. Walk-in day hire is available at Bournemouth East and Bournemouth West beaches during the season, typically from late March to late September. You book in person at the Tourist Information Centre at Pier Approach. At other beaches, the minimum hire is usually two days, booked in advance.
Dog-friendly beach sections exist near several hut areas, including east of Fisherman's Walk and near Southbourne. Dog restrictions apply on the main beaches during summer (typically May to September). Check the specific beach rules before booking if you are bringing a dog.
Key collection details are included in your booking confirmation. For council-run huts, keys are collected from the local beach office or Tourist Information Centre. For privately owned huts booked through Hut & Tide, the owner will arrange collection, often from a nearby key safe or in person. Keys must normally be returned by 5pm on the final day of your hire, unless stated differently in your rental agreement.
Hut & Tide uses Stripe to process all payments. Stripe handles payments for millions of businesses worldwide and encrypts all card data. Deposits are held securely and refunded according to the terms shown on each listing. Every hut owner is verified before their listing goes live, and all huts must meet minimum quality and safety standards.
