Alum Chine

Family-friendly with tropical gardens, a pirate-themed playground and a water play area. The beach holds a Green Flag award and sits close to pubs and cafes on the promenade. Huts here are popular with families who want easy access to car parks, food and entertainment without walking far.

Boscombe

Known for its surf culture and vibrant atmosphere. Boscombe has its own pier, a weekly market, sports courts, bouldering and an outdoor gym. The designer beach pods at the Overstrand (by Wayne and Geraldine Hemingway) come with mains electricity, a kitchenette, kettle and microwave. Accessible huts are also available here.

Southbourne beach near Bournemouth

Southbourne

The eastern end of the Bournemouth stretch, close to Hengistbury Head nature reserve. Southbourne has its own high street with independent shops and coffee houses. The beach is calmer and less crowded, which suits families and couples who want a more relaxed day. Huts are typically available for two days or more.

Bournemouth Central

The main beaches either side of Bournemouth Pier. This is where the action is: the Oceanarium, Rockreef climbing, zip wire from the pier, and plenty of bars and restaurants. Day hire huts are available as walk-ins from the Tourist Information Centre at Pier Approach during the season.

Durley Chine

A Blue Flag beach with a central location close to town and the Lower Gardens. There is a traditional pub right on the promenade, a cafe, and the new Durley Environmental Hub built from locally sourced, renewable materials. Good for families and couples who want to be close to everything.

Fisherman's Walk

Fisherman’s Walk offers a sandy stretch away from the central pier area. Woodside Road is the council-listed nearby car park, while the zigzag connects the clifftop with the beach.

A proper seaside, with huts to match

Bournemouth's coastline runs from Hengistbury Head in the east to Alum Chine in the west, passing through sheltered bays, sandy coves and long open stretches of beach. The area benefits from a south-facing micro-climate with some of the warmest sea temperatures in the UK, which means huts get used from early spring right through to autumn and beyond.

The town has held Blue Flag beach status since 1996. Across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole there are currently nine Blue Flag beaches and ten Seaside Awards. Bournemouth beach itself has been ranked among the top beaches in Europe by TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice Awards multiple times, including the 12th best beach in the world in 2025.

Beach huts here are part of the furniture. They line the promenades from Southbourne through to Branksome, each one a base for the day: somewhere to store bags, change, brew a cup of tea, eat lunch out of the wind and let the kids nap. The huts range from traditional wooden cabins with a gas ring and deckchairs to modern pods with mains electricity, kitchenettes and microwaves, and even beach lodges with bathrooms and Wi-Fi for overnight stays.

Dogs on the beach

Bournemouth is workable with a dog in summer, but not across every main bathing area. From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are banned from Blue Flag and Seaside Award beaches, but BCP keeps designated dog-friendly stretches open, including parts of the seafront around Alum Chine to Branksome, Middle Chine to Durley Chine, and east of Fisherman's Walk towards Southbourne. Out of season, dogs are allowed on all beaches, with leads required on promenades and paths.

What does beach hut hire cost?
Prices vary by hut, hire period and time of year. Where a starting price is available it is shown above; check the booking provider for your dates and final price.
What is included with a Bournemouth beach hut?
Most standard huts come with a storage cupboard, a side table, four deckchairs, a gas ring for boiling a kettle, and curtains for privacy. Crockery and cooking utensils are not usually included. Beach pods at Boscombe Overstrand are more equipped, with mains electricity, a kitchenette, kettle, microwave, directors chairs and a table. Beach lodges include a bathroom, kitchen, TV and Wi-Fi.
Can I hire a beach hut for just one day?
Yes. Walk-in day hire is available at Bournemouth East and Bournemouth West beaches during the season, typically from late March to late September. You book in person at the Tourist Information Centre at Pier Approach. At other beaches, the minimum hire is usually two days, booked in advance.
Are Bournemouth beach huts dog friendly?
Dog-friendly beach sections exist near several hut areas, including east of Fisherman's Walk and near Southbourne. Dog restrictions apply on the main beaches during summer (typically May to September). Check the specific beach rules before booking if you are bringing a dog.
How do I collect the keys?
