Some of Dorset's best hut locations, without needing to pick just one

Poole's seafront is strong because it is not all built around one beach. Sandbanks is the obvious draw, and fair enough, but the town keeps going with a run of beaches that each do something slightly different. Shore Road is easy and accessible, Canford Cliffs feels smart without being stuffy, and Branksome Chine or Branksome Dene give you a bit more space and a less central feel.

The huts matter here because the beaches are the main event. This is the coast for proper all-day use. Swimming, paddleboards, a lazy lunch, back to the sand, then one more cup of tea before packing up. Poole is good at that kind of day.

The Poole seafront is well set up for full-day use. Depending on the stretch, you will find toilets, accessible toilets, ramps, beach offices, drinking water, cafes and kiosks, watersports hire and lessons, lifeguards and parking. Shore Road and Sandbanks are especially good if easy access matters.

Dogs on the beach

Poole is decent for dogs in summer if you pick the right stretch. From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are banned from the main award beaches, but there are designated year-round dog-friendly areas including the western end of Sandbanks promenade to Haven Point, plus dog-friendly stretches around Branksome Dene and Hamworthy. So it is not unrestricted, but it is far from dog-hostile.
