Hire periods and minimum stays vary by hut.Weymouth is not the strongest Dorset town for standard short-stay beach huts, but it does have beach chalets along the seafront and three accessible beach chalets for hire. If you are building this page, it makes more sense to talk about chalets and beach-side bases here rather than oversell a big hut market that is not really the town's style.
The main beach gives you the classic Weymouth experience, but Greenhill is the more chalet-shaped part of town and usually the better place to think in terms of a beach base rather than just open sand. The seafront links the two easily, so you are never far from the main town beach.
Weymouth’s beach runs beside the seafront promenade. Choose your meeting point before setting off, especially if you are comparing the main sandy beach with the stretch towards Greenhill.
Dog access changes with the season and beach zone. If you are enquiring about a beach tent or hut, check exactly what is supplied: the town council’s Greenhill scheme rents tent sites and requires tenants to provide their own tent to its specification.
Weymouth has that full-on seaside look people still want from a beach town. A big arc of sand, a Georgian seafront behind it, gentle shelving into the water and enough going on that you can spend a whole day here without ever feeling stuck. It is one of those beaches that genuinely works for families.
The beach-side accommodation here leans more towards chalets than simple timber huts. Greenhill has its historic chalet line, and the seafront also includes accessible beach chalets for hire. So the feel is a bit different from Swanage or Bournemouth, but still very much part of the Dorset beach-hire picture.

Weymouth is strong on practical beach-day stuff. There are nearby car parks, toilets, outdoor showers, lifeguards from May to the end of September, lost children support, deckchair and windbreak hire, beach wheelchairs and level or ramped access in the main areas. Greenhill adds gardens, cafes and a calmer edge further along the seafront.
Weymouth is mixed for dogs in peak season. Dogs are allowed on Weymouth and Greenhill beaches from 1 October to the end of April. In summer, dogs are still allowed all year in designated areas, including Greenhill Groyne to Overcombe, Bowleaze Cove and the dog exercise area near the Pavilion. So there are high-season options, but not across the main central sands.
