Cromer has a mix of visitor hire and longer-term occupancy. North Norfolk's 2024 review says the council had 12 Cromer chalets and 3 Cromer beach huts as weekly lets, alongside a much larger stock of five-year lease chalets and hut plots on the east and west promenade. So there is genuine short-stay hire here, not just private ownership.

Cromer's hut and chalet stock is split between the east and west promenade. That matters because the two sides have a slightly different feel. The east side keeps you closer to the pier and Rocket House area, while the west promenade is handy for parking, easier access and a flatter run along the seafront.

A proper Norfolk seaside town, with chalets right on the prom
Cromer looks the part straight away. The pier gives it shape, the cliffs lift the town above the beach, and when the tide is out there is a broad sweep of sand that makes the place feel much bigger than it first appears. It still feels like a real seaside town rather than a place trying too hard to be one.
The chalet and hut setup suits that perfectly. Cromer has both east and west promenade locations, with council chalets and huts woven into the seafront rather than pushed off to one side. Add the gardens, the easy links up into town, and the fact that the beach is Blue Flag rated, and it becomes one of the stronger hut-and-chalet spots in Norfolk without needing to make a fuss about it.

Cromer is good on the practical stuff. There are public toilets on the promenade, Blue Badge parking on the west side, a lift down to the east prom from town, accessible toilets, a beach wheelchair available from Cromer Pier, and the Rocket Café right by the seafront. The pier and town centre are also only a short walk away.
Dogs on the beach
Cromer is partly dog friendly during the main season rather than fully open. North Norfolk's current order keeps dogs off the restricted part of Cromer beach from 1 May to 30 September, with lead rules on parts of the promenade in the same period. Outside the signed exclusion zone, there is still beach available, so summer dog access is possible if you choose the right stretch.
